On Tuesday at the Trump Tower in New York City, Donald Trump<\/a> announced his candidacy for the 2016 U.S. presidential election \u2014 and he\u2019s serious this time. As an accomplished investor, mogul, television\u00a0personality\u00a0and author, Trump hopes to receive a Republican presidential nomination and move into the White House.<\/p>\n

\u201cLadies and gentleman,\u201d he said, \u201cI\u2019m officially running for President of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump Reveals His Net Worth Is $8.74 Billion<\/h2>\n

Trump has built an empire and that has made him both one of the richest people in America and an icon of popular culture through shows like \u201cThe Apprentice\u201d and \u201cCelebrity Apprentice.\u201d Trump is well-known for being outspoken about politics, especially in recent years. He has been critical of President Obama and famously demanded that Obama produce a valid birth certificate.<\/p>\n

For his announcement, Trump claimed all transparency. Presidential candidates are required to make financial disclosures, which include an outline of their assets, liabilities and income. With these disclosures, the goal is to guard against conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n

In preparation of his announcement, Trump said he had accountants working around the clock to tabulate his assets, liabilities and properties that would affect his net worth so he could meet all financial disclosure requirements.\u00a0According to this document <\/a>that he reportedly published in conjunction with his announcement, Trump\u2019s total assets are worth $9.24 billion, and he has $502 million in liabilities. His net worth is nearly $9 billion \u2014 $8.74 billion, to be exact.<\/p>\n

The billionaire also added that he would not be asking for donations for his campaign. \u201cI\u2019m using my own money,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s Stance on Global Competition and Jobs Creation<\/h2>\n

During his announcement, Trump touched on many topics that are likely to be central to his presidential platform, including trade, economic and monetary policies. He pulled this together under the motto, \u201cMaking America great again.\u201d<\/p>\n

In particular, Trump emphasized a need for the U.S. to regain its competitive edge, especially against nations like China, Japan and Mexico, which Trump said are \u201ckilling us economically.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur country is in serious trouble,\u201d he said. \u201cWe don\u2019t have victories anymore\u2026When was the last time anyone saw us beating China?\u201d Trump also spoke out against Obama\u2019s trade bill<\/a>, claiming it would fail because the president is a horrible negotiator.<\/p>\n

Another central point to Trump\u2019s speech was jobs in<\/a> America.\u00a0\u201cOur labor participation rate was the worst since 1978,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cOur real unemployment is anywhere from 18 to 20 percent.\u201d Trump also said that people shouldn\u2019t buy the Bureau of Labor<\/a> Statistic\u2019s reports in recent months of the 5.6 percent unemployment rate.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have people that aren\u2019t working. We have people that have no incentive to work,\u201d Trump said. \u201cBut they\u2019re going to have incentive to work, because the greatest social program is a job \u2026 I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created.\u201d<\/p>\n
