Millennials in Canada Dissatisfied with their Jobs: 55 Per Cent Want Career Change in 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to a survey from human resources firm ADP Canada (the ADP Canada Sentiment Survey),\u00a0millennials in Canada are so dissatisfied with their jobs that more than half want to change course in 2016.<\/p>\n

Fifty-five per cent of millennial respondents, aged 18 to 34, said they want a career change<\/a> in 2016, in the form of a new job, starting a business or going back to school.<\/p>\n

Among other age groups, 31 per cent said they want a career change this year. According to ADP, that sentiment is making it difficult for businesses to retain talent.<\/p>\n

Among survey respondents, 27 per cent said they would like to find a new job, while 11 per cent said they want to start their own business and 10 per cent said they would like to go back to school.<\/p>\n

Fifteen per cent said they would like more flexible hours, while 8 per cent said they hoped to be able to work remotely.<\/p>\n

Millennials\u2019 drive to find new work may indicate strong ambition among younger demographics.<\/p>\n

Among those aged 18 to 44, nearly half (46 per cent) are focused on career-building activities, such as a salary increase, getting more responsibility at work or securing a promotion.<\/p>\n

Among those aged 45 and up, only 26 per cent are focused on career-building activities.<\/p>\n

Time for a change<\/strong>
\n27 per cent of employed Canadians would like to find a new job
\n11 per cent would like to start their own business
\n10 per cent hope to go back to school<\/p>\n

Ambition<\/strong>
\n25 per cent are seeking a pay raise
\n14 per cent want to take on more responsibility
\n12 per cent are seeking a promotion
\n11 per cent want to work more<\/p>\n

Flexibility and balance<\/strong>
\n15 per cent would like to find more flexible work hours
\n14 per cent want to work less
\nEight per cent hope to work remotely
\nThree per cent would like unpaid time off<\/p>\n

Self-improvement<\/strong>
\n18 per cent would like to learn a new work-related skill
\n15 per cent say they\u2019d like to get more training
\n11 per cent would like to get a certificate, degree or diploma
\nFour per cent would like to job shadow someone else
\nAge matters<\/strong>
\nMillennials (ages 18-34) are more likely, compared to other age groups to say they would like to make a career change \u2013 such as finding a new job, going back to school or starting a business<\/a> (55 per cent vs. 31 per cent of other age groups).
\nThose ages 18-44 are more likely to say they would like to advance their career, focusing on things such as getting a raise, taking on more responsibility and getting a promotion \u2014 compared to those who are over 45 (46 per cent vs. 26 per cent).<\/p>\n
