Will 2015 be the year you travel to a top wine destination? Wine Enthusiast magazine has unveiled their top 10 wine travel destinations for 2015, with Okanagan, Canada in the number seventh spot. The magazine calls the region in British Columbia a “shining jewel,” which has long been a centre for agriculture and a four-season outdoor playground. The Okanagan region has over 131 wineries, more than 8,000 acres of vineyard and broad range of wines that make it one of the greatest wine touring experiences in the world. The Magazine credits the Okanagan region for its B.C. wineries for opening on-site restaurants, focusing on locally sourced ingredients, seasonal menus and panoramic views. Cited are Miradoro at Tinhorn Creek, Old Vines at Quails’ Gate, Terrafina at Hester Creek and Burrowing Owl’s Sonora Room.
There are three U.S. destinations on the list: Finger Lakes, N.Y., Orlando, Fla., and Mendocino, Calif. Rounding out the list are Piedmont, Italy; Hawkes Bay, N.Z.; Rhone Valley, France; Galicia, Spain; Loire Valley, France; and Istria, Croatia.
